- Mud-Lubricated Pulse Drilling Motors

AxialPulse™

Bit-level axial impulses for faster footage — with 100% flow‑through and no additional pressure drop.

AxialPulse™ is a PDM with a mud‑lubricated bearing section and a built‑in impeller that converts part of the mud flow into low‑amplitude axial pulses at the bit. The mechanism engages on‑bottom (above a minimum weight on bit) and disengages off‑bottom. Fully compatible with MWD, including mud‑pulse telemetry (this is not a telemetry pulser).

Proven benefits

+25–35% ROP* in field runs
Better weight transfer through sticky intervals; less bit‑balling
Stick‑slip mitigation and steadier bit contact
No hydraulic penalty: 100% flow to the bit with no additional pressure drop
Simple service: mud‑lubricated bearing, no oil system
Automatic on/off behavior tied to bit contact
Carbonates & dolomites • Interbedded hard streaks • Build/hold & horizontals with limited WOB • Re‑entry and cement drill‑outs • Problem shales
120 mm (4¾"), 172 mm (6¾"), 203–210 mm (8–8¼"), 240 mm (9½"). API connections: 3½ Reg / 4½ Reg / 6⅝ Reg / 7⅝ Reg. Full operating specifications are available in the datasheet.
  • Works with standard motor BHAs (UBHO/crossover + MWD/LWD); compatible with jars and shock tools
  • Bit selection matters: prefer robust PDC/Hybrid designs; confirm aggressivity vs formation to balance ROP versus bit life
  • Use normal MotorMax PDM flow and pressure windows for the selected size
